David J. Ellis is an Associate at Butler in the Tampa office. He practices in First-Party Coverage and Extra-Contractual Claims.
David received his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, CA. While in law school, David earned the distinction of being named a Jefferson Fellow. David also received the High Grade Award for earning top marks in his Advance Legal Research Class.
Prior to joining Butler, David worked as an Assistant State Attorney in Florida’s 6th Judicial Circuit, where he gained extensive courtroom and advocacy experience. He has handled a case load of over 100 cases consisting of both felony and misdemeanor cases.
David also had the honor of serving as the judicial law clerk to the Honorable Presiding Judge Roberto C. Naraja of the Superior Court of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, an opportunity that allowed David to hone and fine-tune his research and writing skills. This experience also gave David first-hand insight into how trial-level judges view pleadings and cases. He also served the Honorable Judge Joel Wohlfeil of the San Diego County Superior Court as a judicial extern, handling analysis of civil law motions.
