This week Hurricane Harvey struck Texas with Category 4 winds and unprecedented rain. Harvey is the first major U.S. hurricane to make landfall in 12 years. Insurers will be working hard to investigate and settle property claims for their customers.

Butler is here to help. For over 38 years we have assisted insurers with hurricane property insurance claims in Florida and throughout the United States. And now we are in Texas, ready to put our experience to work for you. We handle a broad range of hurricane claims, including homeowners, condominium associations, and commercial losses. We also advise clients on strategic claims handling issues.

Hurricane claims often trigger complex policy and legal issues. We counsel clients every day on many of the following:

  • AOBs (Assignment of Benefits)
  • Appraisal
  • Avoiding allegations of “Bad Faith”
  • Proper application of Blanket policies
  • Business interruption, including contingent BI, and extra expense
  • Code upgrades
  • Condominiums
  • Entitlements to interest and attorney fees
  • Ensuing Loss
  • Forced-placed coverages
  • Interior water damage
  • Mortgagees, loss payees, and other beneficiaries
  • National Flood Insurance Program
  • Off-premises power interruption
  • Orders of civil authority
  • Potential subrogation
  • Primary/excess relationships
  • Replacement Cost vs. Actual Cash Value
  • Valued policy laws
  • Wind vs. water adjustments
  • Working with public adjusters
