Jessica Stillwell is an Associate at Butler practicing in Third-Party Coverage.  Jessica is originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis. She graduated magna cum laude from Florida Coastal School of Law in 2015.  While in law school, she worked as a law clerk in an insurance and warranty defense firm as well as a plaintiffs’ firm.  Jessica also served as a legal extern in the Office of the General Counsel at Winn-Dixie/Bi-Lo Holdings. 

Jessica received nine Book Awards for achieving the highest grade in courses including Florida Practice and Procedure, Pretrial Litigation Drafting, and Statutory Interpretation and Legislative Process.  She earned an LL.M. in Taxation from University of Florida Levin College of Law, where she focused her studies on employee benefits law.

COURT DECISIONASSAULT AND BATTERY EXCLUSION IN FLORIDA - DEAD OR ALIVE?

Scottsdale relied upon several decisions in which courts applying Florida law have found that similar assault and battery exclusions applied to eliminate any potential for coverage. The Southern District determined that each of those cases was distinguishable because they all involved an undisputed assault or battery to the claimant in the underlying lawsuit.
