Disciplined in Sophisticated Defense and Insurance Litigation

Martá P. Brown is a Senior Associate in the Butler Charlotte office.  He focuses his practice on Complex Commercial Litigation and Insurance Coverage Law. Martá’s litigation practice also includes managing litigation for contractors in a variety of construction matters.  He has conducted internal investigations for North Carolina municipalities in employment cases, defended corporations and limited liability companies in extensive tort litigation, and advised clients in a broad range of contractual disputes in state and federal court.  Martá excels at overseeing all aspects of trial preparation and strategic litigation planning.  His well-rounded skill set includes first-chair trial experience and advocating on behalf of clients in mediated settlement conferences and defense of clients before arbitration panels. National insurers have sought out and relied upon Martá’s insurance coverage opinions and recommendations in first and third-party coverage matters and fraud investigations.

Martá graduated from North Carolina State University in 2006 with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics and Political Science. He went on to receive his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 2009. In law school, Martá served as an Articles and Notes Editor for the North Carolina Banking Institute Journal and as a Research Assistant for Professor Ruth Ann McKinney. Martá is currently the Chair of the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys Young Lawyers Committee.

Prior to joining Butler, Martá practiced at a civil litigation firm defending businesses and insurers in first and third-party coverage matters, product liability, and tort litigation. He also worked previously as an Assistant District Attorney in the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office where he tried numerous cases to verdict.
