The Paul B. Butler Service Award Goes to Judy Fan

January 24, 2018

The Paul B. Butler Award recognizes an employee each year who exemplifies the firm’s commitment to Service, Teamwork, Excellence and Principles. The winner is drawn from the past year’s recipients of the STEP award. This year, Butler is pleased to recognize an employee whose commitment to the firm served not only the lawyers who depend on her but also the clients whose relationships are so highly valued by the firm. This year’s Paul B. Butler Award recipient is Judy Fan.

Judy effectively redefined her position as a legal assistant, transforming it into the nerve center for a high-volume client. She has worked not only as an assistant to two to three lawyers but effectively as a manager—and an excellent one at that. Over the past ten years, she has accepted responsibility for the intake, opening, distribution, and tracking of cases referred by a major firm client. There were extended periods when the new file count totaled ten to fifteen per week, and Judy maintained her usual calm composure. Judy has been the critical conduit for dozens of Butler attorneys, paralegals, assistants, and client contacts. She has been invaluable for the excellent servicing of this client, going far beyond the usual expectations of her position as an assistant. Her contributions helped foster a true partnership between firm and client, which is one of the core principles Butler strives to uphold.

Judy’s dedicated work ethic and humble demeanor are well known. Please join us in congratulating Judy Fan as the newest winner of the Paul B. Butler Award.
