Clayton Lizana is an Associate in Butler’s Tallahassee office. Clayton Lizana is a dedicated attorney with a diverse background in both criminal defense and civil litigation. A graduate of Barry University School of Law, he began his legal career with the Office of the Public Defender in Orlando, managing a high-volume caseload from initial appearance through trial. His prior military service in the U.S. Army instilled in him the discipline, leadership, and composure that now shape his legal practice.
What sets Clayton apart is his blend of courtroom experience, investigative skill, and strategic thinking. He excels at building strong defenses, negotiating favorable outcomes, and advocating effectively in court. Before law school, he worked as a litigation paralegal in insurance defense, gaining early insight into the litigation process from the civil side, experience that gives him a well-rounded and practical approach to legal challenges.
Clayton’s leadership in the Criminal Law Society and Veteran Legal Society reflects his commitment to public service and client advocacy. He also holds a B.A. in Criminal Justice from the University of Southern Mississippi, with a minor in Spanish, allowing him to better serve a diverse client base. Outside of work, Clayton enjoys spending time with his wife and their two corgis. He loves the outdoors: kayaking, hiking, relaxing at the beach, and exploring Florida’s natural springs. His grounded personality and strong sense of purpose define his approach both in and out of the courtroom.
