April 10, 2012

The link below is a recall notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announcing a recall of Viking dishwashers. Specific model numbers for the recalled product are listed on the CPSC website at the link below. Viking Range Corporation has announced a voluntary recall involving approximately 2,000 Viking dishwashers due to overheating. Viking has received 21 reports of incidents, including five reports of property damage from fires. An internal electrical component can cause the dishwasher to overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers and their property. The recall involves Viking 24″ Professional, Designer and Custom Panel dishwashers manufactured between May and September 2010. Specific model and serial numbers included in this recall can be located on the left side of the dishwasher door opening. The involved Viking dishwashers were sold at appliance and specialty retail stores nationwide from June 2010 through March 2012.

This recall presents a potential avenue of recovery about which subrogation professionals should be aware when evaluating fires in residential and commercial losses.
