Kurt Widenhouse is an Associate in the firm’s Charlotte office, where he focuses his practice on subrogation and recovery matters on behalf of insurers and other clients. His work involves investigating complex property losses, evaluating liability, and pursuing recovery against responsible third parties. Kurt routinely assists clients with matters involving fire losses, water and plumbing failures, explosions, construction defects, product failures, and other property damage claims.
Kurt earned his Bachelor’s degree in History from Erskine College in 2015 and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in 2018. During law school, he participated in the Mediation Clinic, where he assisted in resolving disputes pending before the Baltimore City Circuit Court. He was also involved in Moot Court and served as an editor for the Maryland Journal of Business and Technology Law, where his written work was selected for publication.
Following law school, Kurt clerked for a federal bankruptcy judge in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Mexico while residing in Albuquerque. This experience provided him with valuable insight into federal court practice and complex financial disputes.
Prior to joining the firm, Kurt practiced at a defense firm where he represented clients in a wide range of civil litigation matters, including complex construction disputes, professional liability, personal injury, wrongful death, and commercial litigation. This litigation background informs his approach to subrogation, allowing him to evaluate claims from both a liability and defense perspective.
Kurt is licensed to practice law in North Carolina. However, he frequently evaluates and investigates losses in Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina, and Kentucky.
Outside of the office, Kurt enjoys woodworking, brewing wine and beer with his father, cooking, photography, hiking, and oil painting.
