Constance Baker Motley shattered multiple glass ceilings as the first Black woman to argue before the Supreme Court and the first to serve as a federal judge. A close collaborator of Thurgood Marshall, she successfully argued pivotal civil rights cases that opened schools, workplaces, and voting booths to Black Americans.
