Appellate Attorney (Tampa)

Butler Weihmuller Katz Craig LLP – a nationally recognized, AV-rated civil litigation firm – is seeking a talented Appellate attorney to join our Tampa office. This position is ideal for an attorney with exceptional research, analytical, and writing skills who enjoys sophisticated legal issues and wants to develop a practice focused on appellate advocacy and complex litigation support.

The successful candidate will work closely with experienced appellate attorneys on matters in Florida state and federal courts. Responsibilities will include drafting appellate briefs, petitions, and substantive motions; conducting complex legal research and analysis; assisting with oral argument preparation; and providing appellate and litigation support on significant legal issues at the trial-court level.

Butler offers a flexible hybrid schedule, combining remote and in-office work.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:

• Meaningful appellate or complex litigation experience, with substantial responsibility for legal research and brief writing;
• Prior judicial clerkship or judicial staff attorney experience strongly preferred;
• Outstanding legal research, analytical, and writing skills;
• Exceptional attention to detail, including the ability to carefully analyze extensive records, identify preservation and procedural issues, and ensure accuracy in citations and record references;
• The ability to develop clear, persuasive legal arguments from complex factual and legal issues;
• Strong organizational and time-management skills and the ability to manage multiple sophisticated assignments and deadlines;
• Sound professional judgment and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively;
• Admission to The Florida Bar or eligibility for admission.

The Role:
This is a writing- and analysis-intensive position. The associate will have the opportunity to work on appeals involving complex and varied areas of law and to participate in matters from initial appellate strategy through briefing and oral argument preparation. The position also includes opportunities to assist trial teams with preservation of error, dispositive motions, post-trial motions, and other issues that may affect a potential appeal.
