George Edgecomb Annual Scholarship Banquet

April 27, 2012

For the past 10 years, Butler has been one of the sponsors of the George Edgecomb Bar Association’s annual scholarship banquet. The George Edgecomb Bar Association hosts an annual scholarship banquet to recognize and award scholarships to African-American high-school students who excel in both the community and at school. Each year GEBA provides one Florida pre-paid scholarship to a high-school freshman, and five cash scholarships to graduating high-school seniors. In addition, GEBA recognizes individuals by awarding its Francisco Rodriguez Award for outstanding public service, the Delano S. Stewart Diversity award for a sustained commitment to diversity in the legal profession, and the President’s Award for outstanding service to GEBA. This year, the George Edgecomb Bar Association held its annual scholarship banquet in conjunction with the National Bar Association’s Gertrude Rush Banquet, the first African-American female lawyer licensed in Iowa and founding member of the National Bar Association.
