Sonya Nazzal is an Associate in the Tampa office and practices primarily in the areas of first-party property insurance defense and related third-party matters. She is licensed to practice in all Florida State Courts and the United States District Courts for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Florida.

Born and raised in Orlando, Sonya received her Bachelor of Science, cum laude, in Legal Studies from the University of Central Florida in 2015. From there, she received her Doctor of Jurisprudence from Stetson University College of Law in 2019. During her time at Stetson, she found her passion for litigation and advocacy and earned the Victor O. Wehle Award, recognizing her as the student with the highest grade designation in Trial Advocacy. Additionally, she served in a leadership capacity as a Deputy Chief for the Stetson Ambassadors, which was an elite leadership team that represented Stetson Law at several community functions and mentored incoming law students. Additionally, she was a Williams Blews Award Recipient for excelling in her law school pro bono work.

Prior to joining Butler, Sonya served the people of the great State of Florida as an Assistant State Attorney for the Sixth Judicial Circuit for almost five years. As an Assistant State Attorney, she honed her skills as a zealous advocate by handling thousands of cases throughout various stages of litigation, which included pre-filing decisions, pretrial motions, discovery, and trial. As a felony attorney, Sonya handled murders, child abuse offenses, sex-related offenses, and other violent and non-violent felonies. During her time at the State Attorney’s Office, she litigated approximately 15 jury trials to a verdict.

Outside of her legal practice, Sonya enjoys giving back to her local community through volunteer work, relaxing on the beach, reading, attending country concerts, and spending time with her cat Noah and her dog Ollie.
