Butler WKC Attorney Marta King has been selected as one of forty international delegates to attend the 2026 PICG Claims Academy in London, England.
The Property Insurance Claims Group (PICG) is a Lloyd’s Market Association Claims Committee (LMACC). The Chair of the group for 2025/2026 is Rich Woodhams (Dale Underwriting), with Louisa Chisholm (Liberty Specialty Markets) and Stuart Wright (Ascot Underwriting) serving as Deputy Chairs.
Marta King, originally from Panama, began her legal career as a practicing attorney in her home country. She earned a Master of Laws degree in England, where she worked in the cargo claims sector. Marta joined Butler WKC as a paralegal, where she gained working experience in the U.S. property insurance sector, before completing law school in the United States. She earned both of her law degrees magna cum laude in two languages. Marta now specializes in first-party property disputes for domestic insurers and the London market.
Each year, PICG hosts an annual conference that ranks among the most important days in the London market, featuring eight panel presentations led by industry experts. Butler WKC had the privilege of presenting at the PICG annual conference in 2023. In conjunction with the conference, PICG organizes its prestigious Claims Academy program.
Designed for emerging professionals in the London market, the Claims Academy is a two-week, hands-on educational program. This program is limited to 40 delegates worldwide, selected each year through a rigorous process. Delegates participate in structured classroom sessions and gain practical, first-hand experience while shadowing brokers and managing agents in the Lloyd’s marketplace.
PICG plays a vital role in the market by (1) leading investigations into property-related issues to create effective solutions for Lloyd’s and the broader market; (2) initiating projects or sub-groups when needed to address specific challenges; and (3) advising and providing feedback to LMACC on issues with wider market impact.
Amid the annual conference and Claims Academy, several related events occur, including the Emerging Professionals Networking Reception and the Women in Insurance Reception. Marta and her fellow delegates will attend each event to fully immerse themselves in the experience.
