TAMPA – For the past seven years, supporting at-risk students in education has been a mission and focus of Butler Weihmuller Katz Craig. On February 15th, the firm was recognized with the prestigious Golden Barrel award from Metropolitan Ministries for its dedication and outstanding service to others. Butler and its employees contributed over 1500 school supplies and 38 backpacks to students in need in 2018. In the seven years of donations, the firm has provided almost 7000 school supplies to at-risk students.
In presenting the award at Butler Weihmuller Katz Craig, Metropolitan Ministries, Jim McCann said: “This team has been so consistent in our schools volunteering and mentoring, very quietly without fanfare.”
Hillsborough County School District is the 8th largest in the nation and nearly two-thirds of students are classified as economically disadvantaged. Fueling the next generation through education is important to the firm. Each year over 250 of Butler’s staff and attorneys come together by volunteering their time and raising donations. Employees take time outside of their workday to shop for essential supplies like pencils, paper and flash drives. Some employees arrive early to work to fill backpacks to ensure each child receives the resources they need to succeed in school.
“We have employees here that really care that much about going out into the community to help others,” said Human Resources Director, Tenille Turner-Trigg, who organizes the collection of supplies for Metropolitan Ministries’ annual Backpacks of Hope drive.
Education is the foundation for success. Each backpack represents an equal learning opportunity for a student in need and hope for a brighter future.
