The STEP Award recognizes Butler employees whose efforts reflect exceptional Service Teamwork Excellence and Principles. Often, winners have performed noteworthy projects within their roles. Others have gone “above and beyond” to fulfill a particular need. The winner of this month’s STEP Award effectively redefined her position over the last few years, transforming it from being an exceptional assistant to acting as the nerve center for three offices in the servicing of a major firm client and being an exceptional assistant. The newest STEP Award winner is Judy Fan.
Judy has worked not only as an assistant to two to three lawyers but effectively as a manager—and an excellent one at that. Over the past ten years, she has accepted responsibility for the intake, opening, distribution, and tracking of cases referred by a major firm client. There were extended periods when the new file count totaled ten to fifteen per week, and Judy maintained her usual calm composure. Judy has been the critical conduit for dozens of Butler attorneys, paralegals, assistants, and client contacts. She has been invaluable for the excellent servicing of this major firm client, going far beyond the usual expectations of her position as an assistant.
