Disciplined in Sophisticated Defense and Insurance Litigation

When Jonathan K. Barger, a Senior Associate, joined Butler in 2011, he brought with him an international outlook. In 1997, he graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Arts in French Language and Literature. Five years later, he received a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law. His certification in comparative and international law qualifies him to handle cases that involve complex jurisdictional issues.

Jon's practice areas include arson and fraud, construction, coverage defense, extra-contractual, product liability, and subrogation and recovery. Jon uses his experience with fire losses to help out in his community; he volunteers to coach fire investigators for the Illinois Fire Institute and the Illinois chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators. His experience also encompasses cases dealing with water, mold, and wind damage as well as other kinds of property damage. Some of his cases have dealt with bad faith, business interruption, manufacturer liability, and insurance coverage issues.

Jon has worked on claims involving more than $250 million. His expertise in international law, along with his admittance to practice law in Illinois and Wisconsin, gives him flexibility in his practice. He is also fluent in French.
